Opel will reduce production of the plant in Germany, where the Insignia and Zafira models are produced
This year, Opel will reduce production at its plant in RUESSELSHEIM, Germany. Opel has not said how much this will reduce production, but the German press suggests that production will be halved, to 68,000 cars from 123,000.
"Opel has continuously adapted production. We want to further improve the use of our installations, which is of course true for Ruesselsheim,” said an Opel representative, adding that the company does not comment on the details of its internal plans.
Zafira sales in Europe fell by 39 percent last year, while customers are switching to crossovers such as the Grandland X, whose sales were increased year-on-year to 74,299 units. The Grandland X is built at the PSA factory in Sauche, France. sales of the Insignia model also fell by 6.8% to 67,053 units.
Last year, PSA Group acquired Opel and its British Vauxhall brand from General Motors in a $ 2.6 billion agreement aimed at restoring Opel's profits by 2020. PSA posted a 7.8 percent increase in quarterly revenue, helped by the acquisition of Opel-Vauxhall.
